Welcome to the Town of Groton, CT

Groton, CT is a town found inside of New London County, in the state of Connecticut. Educated tourists will notice right away that Groton has a heavy historical background. Let's get one thing straight: there is a city called Groton, CT and a town of Groton, CT. The town has a much larger population, nearing 40,000 people. The city, on the other hand (and ironically enough) is smaller, holding approximately 10,000 people. The city of Groton is actually a dependent political subdivision of Groton. The real deal here is Groton the town; this has the historical sites, the rich culture, and all the major attractions.

Some of the most interesting attractions in Groton, Connecticut are historically significant. For example, tours are arranged for the Electric Boat Corporation as well as the Groton Submarine Base. Fort Griswold, CT heroes are celebrated at the Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park. There are also museums to speak of, which hold numerous artifacts of early American life, colonial life and even American Indian life from before English settlement.

At the same time, this is not a place that children will be afraid to tread. What child would be bored, considering that there are animal exhibits, interactive science fare, and 3-D movies tailor-made for youths? A lot of this flash is courtesy of the Mystic, Groton area. This village within the town holds the Mystic Aquarium and the Mystic Seaport.

Groton, CT - Then and Now
When it's time to eat, you and the family can head over the seaport area or to the downtown section for a variety of seafood delights, Italian entrees, Chinese and Japanese delicacies and old fashioned American food. The history of Groton is actually quite amazing, considering the hardships it endured from the very beginning (first discovered as an unproductive farmland in the 1600s) and into times of early American wars (both the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812), and even down to the present-day recession. Yet, the town is still booming, thanks to major industries like General Dynamics' Electric Boat and the pharmaceutical company Pfizer. Fishing, tourism and even arts and recreation are also important industries to the town.
